Trained as a physicist and biological microscopist, Karl Gaff is a passionate scientific photographic artist from Dublin. He has transformed his lifelong passion for photography and microscopy into a career, founding "The Art of Science Photography” in late 2021.

Through a fusion of art and science, Karl uses the medium of photography as a tool together with his artistic vision, creativity and imagination to capture photography that is not only scientifically educational, but imagery that is incredibly beautiful and visually captivating. Such photography can help us inspire curiosity and deepen our understanding and appreciation for the natural world, thus can be a powerful tool for education. It can help illustrate scientific concepts and phenomena in a way that is accessible and engaging to a wide audience of people. As a consequence, it can raise awareness about environmental issues and inspire people to take action to protect and preserve natural habitats and species.

Through the microscope, Karl can make anything from microscopic pond life, plants and flowers, to drinks and fragrances look like award winning works of art that can be used for marketing, advertising and publication. He also provides educational imagery and limited edition fine art prints of his unique polarisation and scanning electron micrograph artworks.
